Product Description: Rabeprazole

Active Ingredient

Rabeprazole sodium is the active ingredient in Rabeprazole. It is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that works by reducing the amount of acid produced in the stomach.

Use

Rabeprazole is used to treat certain stomach and esophagus problems (such as acid reflux, ulcers). It relieves symptoms such as heartburn, difficulty swallowing, and persistent cough. It helps heal acid damage to the stomach and esophagus, helps prevent ulcers, and may help prevent cancer of the esophagus.

Recommended Dosage

  • Adults: The typical starting dosage for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is 20 mg once daily.

  • Duodenal Ulcers: 20 mg once daily after the morning meal for up to 4 weeks.

  • Helicobacter pylori eradication: 20 mg twice daily with appropriate antibiotics.

  • Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: Starting dose is 60 mg once daily, with possible adjustments based on the patient's needs.

Dosage may vary based on the condition being treated, the patient's age, and response to treatment. Always follow the dosage prescribed by your healthcare provider.

Directions

  1. Administration: Take Rabeprazole by mouth, usually once daily, with or without food as directed by your doctor.

  2. Swallow whole: Do not crush, chew, or split the tablet. Doing so can release all of the drug at once, increasing the risk of side effects.

  3. Consistency: For best results, take the medication at the same time each day.

  4. Duration: Continue to take this medication for the prescribed length of time even if you feel better. Stopping the medication too early may result in a return of the symptoms.

Cautions

  • Allergic Reactions: Inform your doctor if you are allergic to Rabeprazole or any other PPIs.

  • Medical History: Disclose your full medical history, especially if you have liver disease, lupus, or if you are prone to low magnesium levels.

  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Use only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss risks and benefits with your doctor. It is unknown if this drug passes into breast milk.

  • Long-term Use: Long-term use may lead to vitamin B-12 deficiency or bone fractures. Consult your doctor about risks and periodic monitoring.

Guidelines

  • Missed Dose: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double the dose to catch up.

  • Storage: Store at room temperature away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medications away from children and pets.
