It is to collect accurate readings under consistent conditions so you and your health care professional can see the pattern.

It can also help confirm whether a reading taken at a medical appointment reflects your typical blood pressure. When Home Blood Pressure Monitoring Is Helpful

Also note factors that might explain an unusual result. Examples include headache, illness, poor sleep, pain, a missed dose, recent exercise, alcohol use, or a new over-the-counter medicine. Decongestants, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, stimulants, and some supplements can affect blood pressure or interact with prescription treatment. What the Numbers May Mean

A reading higher than 180/120 mm Hg requires prompt attention. Wait at least one minute and check again.
